PROGRAM NOTE
Lunar Songs was commissioned by ASCAP for the Leonard Bernstein Centennial in 2019. The text by poet and writer J. Mae Barizo pays tribute to Bernstein’s iconic persona, his love for New York City, and his desire for human progress. The music is inspired by German art song, polyrhythmic overlays, and tone painting.
