Installation

PART I. INSTALLATION OF THE PLUGIN INTO SIBELIUS

This plugin is installed manually (just as any other plugin not present in Sibelius automatic repository).

The idea is to put the “.plg” file into the Sibelius plugins folder and restart Sibelius.
The question is: where is the plugin folder?

Next lines are based on the instructions from Sibelius Official Site:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PC:

1. Quit Sibelius.
2. Open a “My Computer” or “Windows Explorer” window and choose Tools > Folder Options
3. Choose the View tab and make sure “Show hidden files” and folders is switched on, then click OK.
4. Navigate to C:Users[username]AppDataRoaming
5. If there is a folder called “Avid” in this location, double-click it to go inside it; if not, create one (choose File > New > New Folder), then go inside it
6. You should see a folder called “Sibelius [X]”. If so, double-click it to go inside it; if not, create one, then go inside it.
7. If there is a folder called “Plugins” in this folder, double-click it to go inside it; if not, create one, then go inside it.
8. Now, drop the folder “BarX Plugins” (which came with this ZIP file) into the “Plugins” folder.
9. Restart Sibelius. You should now see the new category “Barx Plugins” and the option “Graphical MIDI Tools” in the plugins menu.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAC:

1. In the Finder, choose Go > Go To Folder and type “~/Library/Application Support”, then click Go.
2. If there is a folder called “Avid” in this location, double-click it to go inside it; if not, create one (choose File > New Folder), then go inside it.
3. You should see a folder called “Sibelius [X]”: if so, double-click it to go inside it; if not, create one, then go inside it.
4. If there is a folder called “Plugins” in this folder, double-click it to go inside it; if not, create one, then go inside it.
5. Now, drop the folder “BarX Plugins” (which came with this ZIP file) into the “Plugins” folder.
6. Restart Sibelius. You should now see the new category “Barx Plugins” and the option “Graphical MIDI Tools” in the plugins menu.

PART II. ASSIGN A SHORTCUT KEY

This plugin makes senses only if used through a keyboard shortcut, instead of the menus. The key assigned works like a “mouse click”.

How to assign a keyboard shortcut to the plugin is shown in the official video tutorial.

In any case the steps are:

1. Click the File Tab (top Left)
2. Then select Preferences
3. Choose the option Keyboard Shortcuts
4. On Tab or category menu, select Plug-ins
5. On Feature menu, select Graphical MIDI interfaces.
6. Click the button Add…, if Sibelius asks you to create “a new set” click Yes
7. Add a keyboard shortcut of your choice. Many of the keys are already assigned to something, don’t worry. Just pick one you don’t use often and overwrite it.
