Music Type Foundry legacy fonts information

Updated February 27, 2025

This information is for customers who purchased the legacy versions of Music Type Foundry (MTF) fonts from Notation Central from 2020-2022, versions 2.x and lower.

These legacy versions of the fonts are no longer supported. However, you may continue to use them as long as you like, under the Music Type Foundry End User License Agreement that was in effect at the time you purchased those fonts. You may find a copy of that license here.

You may continue to access and download these versions of fonts, for your own licensed use, through your Notation Central account.

Versions 3.0 and higher of Music Type Foundry fonts may be found here, and are considered new products, and governed by the NYC Music Services End User License Agreement that you will agree to upon installing the font, and may also be found on each individual product page, in a “License” tab. Although there is no upgrade path to the new versions, anyone is welcome to take advantage of any sales, discounts, and coupon codes that may be generally available.

It may be possible for one person using a legacy version of an MTF font to share the notation software file (i.e, Dorico file) that makes use of that font with another user using the new version of the MTF font; however, this is unsupported and may lead to inconsistencies in display. For this reason, if two or more users wish to collaborate or access a music notation software file that uses an MTF font, it is advised that each user purchase the new version of that font and install the latest update available.

If you have purchased a legacy version of an MTF font (2.x and lower), and subsequently purchase the new version of that same font (3.0 and higher), you will have access to both versions of the font separately in your Notation Central account. However, it is possible that upon installation of the new version, it will overwrite the previous version of the font on your computer, so if you need to use the legacy version of these fonts, you may need to temporarily install the legacy version, and then re-install the new version once you are finished. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

It is our intention that going forward, any updates that may be made to these new versions of the MTF fonts (3.0 and higher) will be provided free of charge to customers of the new version.
